Ryen Thoonen cannot stop grinning after pop superstar Katy Perry picked him out of the crowd to share a pizza.
The 11-year-old Caledonian Primary School pupil was invited on stage at the singer’s Prismatic world tour concert on Saturday night.
Once on stage, he was quizzed about his age, what grade he was in at school and whether he was allergic to gluten.
Ryen said Ms Perry also asked him to name his favourite singer.
“I said ‘you’ and she fell over,” he said.
Ryen, whose favourite Katy Perry songs are Firework and Roar, had travelled to Melbourne with his mother, older brother and a family friend to attend the concert at Rod Laver Arena.
But Ryen said his classmates at school were sceptical at first when he told them about his weekend.
“They didn’t believe me. But when I showed them the photos, they believed me,” he said.
Ryen said his mother had been momentarily distracted by her phone not working and did not realise Ms Perry had picked him to join her.
“She looked up and I was on stage,” he said.
He said his mother immediately grabbed her friend’s phone and began snapping photo after photo of him being hugged and kissed by the pop singer.
A school staff member said Ryen was still excited.
“He came to school this morning with glitter still on his face.”
